Beautiful Days

Beautiful Days certainly lives up to its title with its mesmerizing imagery and very polished production values. But it is weighed down by a cliched narrative and simplistic moral binaries...

Although structurally a little over-complicated, it's still an accomplished first fiction feature from Yun Jéro, which uses the intimacy of a family story to explore the plight of illegal migrants from North Korea.

Yun's first narrative feature... is actually quite gorgeous, bathing its characters in reflected blue and red neon as it burrows its way back in time, ever so slowly excavating its central mystery.

Jero Yun proves quite adept in building his story, with the various secrets being revealed in a way the keeps the interest from wavering, while presenting a rather captivating life story
