Spider

Polished in a serviceable manner, Spider has a studio feel.

This elegantly told tale of the diverging fates of a gang of right-wing radicals in the pre-coup d'état Chile of the early 70s is both as human and as political in its concerns as you'd expect from Wood.

It splendidly captures a fragment of the political history of Chile, but it doesn't provoke me even the remotest emotion with its hollow characters and its socio-political parable about the nefarious consequences of the far-right. [Full review in Spanish]

Spider works better when it's a period drama about a right-wing rebellion than it does when it's a political thriller; its failure to do both equally well weakens the film, but doesn't necessarily kill it.
