A chewy drama about family dynamics, sexuality and ego featuring two brothers on a ranch in Montana in 1925.

Campion’s new Western shares a visual vocabulary with Brokeback Mountain, but what looks like an unlikely love story turns out to be a tale of revenge.

A brutal meditation on masculinity.

It’s a flawed film and much of it doesn’t quite persuade. Yet the inconsistencies don’t diminish its mesmeric power. Campion recognises that even when we want to reject the old myths, we may still be seduced by them.
