For its celebration of a real-life military hero, this Indian film uses an action-movie style that makes even the Top Gun films look like wussy, pinko pacifist tracts.

Never dull for a second of its ample running time – even if some viewers may find the sentimentality a little hard to digest.

Major is in a perennial state of exaggeration. The sighs, the misty eyes, the mushy speeches, its details are invested in highlighting all things in-your-face.

Major is far from being perfect. Nevertheless, it's an effective homage to the hero of 26/11.
