Most of all, we find ourselves held tightly by the utter assurance of Kastrati’s direction and her sister’s superb camerawork, which lead us steadily, unstoppably, into the darkest place on earth.

Kosovan writer-director Antoneta Kastrati draws deep from the wells of both her homeland's tragedy and her own in this disturbing, unnerving story.

Matoshi's impressively internalized performance conveys a lot with very little, her impassive features telegraphing submerged grief with scant trace of melodrama.

A film that intertwines the past and present to categorically display the long term effects of trauma with blistering realism.
