While this Italian-language weepie blessedly sidesteps schmaltz, it disappointingly fails to capitalize on its promised premise. It's something for the re-gifting pile.

Italian tearjerker has some language, mature themes.

Very loosely based on a true sad story, this fantasy drama allows an angry child to have a breakthrough of empathy for her parents.

It's better than most shameless tearjerkers, but isn't quite ambitious enough to transcend the banalities of its genre.
