It’s a feminist picaresque, as relevant as Barbie or Promising Young Woman, about the professional evolution of a London-based It girl called Diana Scott (Christie) and the moral emptiness that accompanies her vertiginous rise.

John Schlesinger's winsome adventure from 1965 still has verve and ambition.

Miss Christie's performance is remarkably vibrant and outgoing.

Christie imbues Diana with the instantly recognizable denial, angst, and worry that come from realizing time is speeding up and decisions are running out.
