Eddington strikes me as the US film of the year: a powder keg and a time capsule reflective of a senseless moment in time. May its cultish second life begin now.

Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone’s comic talents are lost to one-dimensional roles in a misguided pandemic satire filled with dated jokes and disingenuous political messaging.

Ari Aster’s severely divisive Covid-set western shows that anxieties about himself and a broken world are his stock in trade. His therapy is to laugh them into submission. His gift as an artist is to invite us to join him. Count me in.

Dynamic protest and outrage soon become noise, mere static in the cruel, mundane shuffle. Ari Aster presents Doomscroll: The Movie... If one is used to checking social media first thing after they wake up, Eddington makes for a great matinee.
