“New Gods: Nezha Reborn” thus revolves more around the details than the big picture. Ji Zhao shows off more of his ability to innovate than he does to animate, and it shows.

New Gods: Nezha Reborn sports stunning animation and takes a unique approach to its mythology, though its characters are thinly sketched.

The animation is extraordinary, and effectively melds the surrealism of fantasy animation with the realism of what looks like a city from the 1940s.

Gripping, engaging, and looks fantastic.
