Storyline

Carried by a rich narration from Orson Welles, this rarely seen 1973 animated adaptation of Plato’s 'allegory of the cave' populates the tale with haunting human figures, bringing retro-surreal life to the parable.

Critics consensus

“Despite its stylized and impressive sets, this horror-monster movie mish-mash suffers from endless cliches and wildly implausible plotlines.”

If the creature in Alien had proliferated like the movie’s knockoffs, mankind would never have survived.

Not only is Patrick Tatopoulos' (I, Robot) creature design laughable, but the actors (other than Hauser who somehow manages to make it through unscathed) give some of most shockingly awful performances I've seen all year.

Yet if all you crave is a well-produced, stylized creature-feature that boasts an easy-on-the-eyes cast and some underrated monsters, then you’re in luck.
