“A classic example of how a talented actor can elevate somewhat standard material, The Life Ahead proves Sophia Loren's star power remains absolutely undimmed.”

Perhaps The Life Ahead feels devised as a career-closing encore first and foremost. But the unbridled pleasure of seeing a Loren encore is not to be sniffed at.

A potentially trite tale of an unlikely relationship is lifted immeasurably by Sophia Loren and is best viewed as a testament to the true power of the movie star.

All the ingredients are here for a moving coming-of-age story; the acting is excellent, the script just the right side of sentimental.
