"Uforia" is a softhearted movie -- its motto, in essence, is "Ya gotta believe" -- but Binder's hapless camera style, the way he places the camera a mile away, or seals his actors off in close-ups, keeps it cold and distant.

It is willing to go for originality in a world that prizes the entertainment assembly line.

An example of aw-shucks cinema, where the downhome yet kooky characters will leave audiences either wanting to give them a warm hug or send them packing.
