Storyline

Think of early electronic music and you’ll likely see men pushing buttons, knobs, and boundaries. While electronic music is often perceived as a boys' club, the truth is that from the very beginning women have been integral in inventing the devices, techniques and tropes that would define the shape of sound for years to come.

The future was always within reach for women in electronic music, and this film thus acts as both a tribute, a homage and a roadmap to how they got to where they are today.

Sisters With Transistors treats both its subjects and audience with care and intelligence, and its form takes cues from the very genre that it centers on.

What a joy is a documentary that neither talks down to its audience nor diminishes its subject.

[The] documentary isn’t always easy to follow but the adventurous, impressionistic approach is entirely in keeping with the material.
