It takes two ploddingly long hours to tell a cumbersomely inflated and often dull story, which even at the finish line has to be wound up pretty arbitrarily.

There's obvious talent at work in this film; its weaknesses seem to stem mostly from inexperience on [Andrew] Gilbert's part or from the constraints of an obviously tight budget.

It's impressively staged, even if the writing and direction lack texture and the whole movie is badly in need of tighter, less indulgent editing.
