This is not everyone’s cup of tea, obviously, but it’s pitched expertly on a fulcrum of absurdity and caustic honesty about the fix we’re in while poking the sore spots of various modern social ills.

That point may be that human beings are intolerable, insignificant, and unnecessary. I guess I prefer my misanthropy more clever and less insincere.

This takes me back to [Yorgos Lanthimos'] Dogtooth in the bold weirdness of it and the challenge of "Are you going to go with us on this trip or not?"

The verdict? It's a brilliant, unsettling piece of cinema that I wish existed as an original story rather than a remake. But if you can get past that particular hang-up, it's absolutely worth your time.
