Kriya

Shot on a limited budget and schedule, Kriya presents an ambitious filmmaker with impressive instincts, delivering an excitingly unique vision.

Unfortunately, Kriya’s script is the weakest link. Much of the dialogue sounds like it was lifted straight from a soap opera, and the film occasionally veers into melodrama, which isn’t particularly becoming for a folk horror film...

Kriya derives its horror from a focus on death customs in the Hindu religion, turning patriarchy into an ancient curse— as if it’s not already.

Though it's overlong and never quite gels as well as it might, Kriya has some very effective moments and suggests that Srinivasan's work could well develop in interesting ways.
