Monstrous

The horror elements in Monstrous may be delayed and eclipsed by a romantic subplot, but they are still valid and worth the wait.

Well-acted by its two stars and written with deliberation and pace (by Shields herself, no less), this is a thoughtful character study and a slowly unfolding mystery - a more serious version of Creep, but without all the found footage and peachfuzz.

While the idea behind this film is refreshing and it does provide a few red herrings to keep the film interesting, it itself seems to be more of a lesbian murder mystery than a monster flick.

Yes, Monstrous is a well-made, scary and suspenseful movie. Horror aficionados will not be disappointed, even if Bigfoot's appearances are few and far between...
