Rituparno Ghosh could have given [Amitabh] Bachchan the role of a lifetime in The Last Lear. But what we get is Bachchan declaiming Shakespeare, buoyed by a soundtrack which toplines thunder, lightning and rain, and spotlit by a bright beam.

Worst aspect, perhaps, is the weak voice of the narrator. Who wants to hear a story in such a weedy voice?

Unfortunately, The Last Lear takes [director Rituparno] Ghosh further into impersonality and subjugation to star power.
