My First Summer is an immersive bedazzled daydream of teenage girlhood, with all its highs and lows.

But the relationship is handled with such care and intimacy, and the cinematography with such artistry and freedom, that this stands out among its peers as a film as warm, moving, and memorable as its central romance.

Like a sickly candy pop, this is saccharine teenage romanticism that does exactly what it says on the wrapper. Like My Summer Of Love without its caustic edge, this dreamy drama is a sun-kissed treat thats ultimately fulfilling, albeit nothing new.

This is a film that queer teens of my generation needed - but luckily, others now have it.
