Dancing Queens

There's an interesting film to be made about women cracking the drag scene, shuffling through complex layers of gender identity and identification, but this innocuous feel-good trifle hasn't exactly found it.

The movie means well, but it also doesn't do anything to really push the genre to new and/or interesting places, nor does it really say anything about drag culture, drag representation, or gender generally, and for some, it could feel a bit touristy.

Dancing Queens doesn't just fail; it falls flat on its face, with the result about as glamorous as a Billy bookcase.

The film makes quite the mistake in giving a cisgender woman the spotlight in a queer space.
