Late August, Early September

A disappointingly sterotypical French film.

Assayas's sense of how relationships evolve between people over time is conveyed with a rich and vivid novelistic density.

A kaleidoscopic but engrossing study of the shifting sands of friendship among a group of Parisians.

The film sketches out very naturally a creative person's life and its ups and downs and the meaningful relationships he forms. As usual, jobs don't define these characters. Their interactions feel genuine and truthful. Their joy and sorrow deeply felt.
