For all its brashness, Shrek’s heart is in the right place.

Based on a children’s book by William Steig, Shrek is a film of marvels if not quite a marvellous film.

Turning the fairy-tale genre on its head was a clever, if not totally novel, notion at the time, and Shrek still retains much of its ironic charm 20 years later.

25 years after its release, Shrek is undoubtedly one of the best movies you can watch for hilarious beats and unbeatable heart in the kind of opening movie that effectively ushers you into a whole new world.
