Storyline

A motley crew of young boys in Colombia lives only for one passion: soccer. But when their precious new ball rolls into a minefield, their dreams are suddenly on hold. Even as the village becomes the center of a tug-of-war between right-wing paramilitary groups and leftist guerrillas, the idea of a rescue attempt is too tempting to resist.

Arbele doesn't let anger cloud his humanity though, and he never sacrifices the ambiguity of his images to score points.

Sometimes, a shot of a bloodied corpse on a donkey or an exploding hog says everything there is to say about the horror, the horror.

Shot almost entirely from the children's perspective, Arbelez tackles universal themes of conflict and its impact on ordinary people without getting mired in specific politics.
