Sisters

Yamina Benguigui's toneless drama is stifled by poorly rendered flashbacks and an emotional aimlessness despite its deeply personal story.

Benguigui... isn't shy about depicting the emotional turmoil and blurred edges of reliving the past through art.

Yamina Benguigui’s Sisters (Soeurs) wants to tackle generational trauma and complex family dynamics, but ends up feeling a little tired and confused.

Despite an intriguing premise there is a vagueness which permeates every creative decision in the film creating a distance that cannot be bridged.
