Invisible Demons

I have to admit I was holding out for a little uplift at the end, some hopeful little shred to cling to in this sea of despair: a crusading politician maybe? Fat chance.

Through a series of arresting images, the director Rahul Jain presents a city on the verge of apocalypse.

It's eye-opening and rather depressing stuff, but while it stops short of being a rallying call to arms, the film delivers a stark message about the unsustainability of this kind of untrammeled 'progress' in India.

The lack of solutions to complete its arc can arguably be construed as an empty exercise of screaming into the void. For the majority of its runtime, nonetheless, “Invisible Demons” does its job, and then some.
