In the depths of the underground coal mines, where danger awaits and darkness prevails, Nam and Việt, both young miners, cherish fleeting moments, knowing that one of them will soon leave for a new life across the sea.
Almost metaphysical in its deeper mysteries, Viet and Nam is a film where what lies beneath matters most.

Viet and Nam is a film that first feels opaque and elusive, and yet it becomes drenched with emotion.

While “Viet and Nam” is filled from beginning to end with outstanding visuals and thought-provoking ideas, it is perhaps too lethargic and, at a little over two hours, overlong. Yet there is still much to enjoy.

It’s a film that operates within both the personal and national spheres, attempting to reconcile the two... While the result may not always be successful, it’s consistently moving and nearly impossible to forget.
