Shattering the myth of unwavering, unbreakable sisterhood (both literally and figuratively), Torn Hearts has a lot to say about age, identity, ambition, solidarity and the limits of feminist solidarity.

This is a really strong thriller about country music, ambition, and the Nashville scene.

If Torn Hearts had pushed itself a little harder, it could have ascended into camp heaven, and maybe become a cult classic. As it stands, it’s an unapologetically high-femme distraction that’s better than your average Lifetime thriller.

Although its restraint is surprisingly artful in what it could unleash, it has no qualms about singing a sweet song while sliding a knife straight into your back.
