This is two projects, one brilliant, the other mediocre.

Carrey holds his own with the special effects, and even keeps from being upstaged by Milo, the mighty Jack Russell terrier.

When his face turns green and his limbs get limber, Carrey's pretty much unstoppable. This cartoon-y creation is an amazing fusion of physical comedy and state-of-the- art cinema illusion.

Like the mask, the film is a perfect fit -- and a perfect showcase -- for Carrey's substantial talents.
