Toll

Writer-director Carolina Markowicz balances earthy authenticity with a deadpan sense of humour and remarkably complex characters who are just getting on with the challenges of life.

A breath of fresh air to the usual stories of oppression in the queer community. Here we see the path forward rather than observing why progress is difficult.

'Toll' criticizes the hypocritical Christian urge to shine a spotlight on the gay community, while larger, more menacing sins are allowed to thrive in the shadows.

Actions have consequences, even if they're motivated by love. Toll shows the price that must be paid, over and over again, in an absorbing and compelling story, filled with unexpected turns.
