There's some very lovely incidental material to the side of the main story.

Much like a firework display the sisters witness as a local funfair, the youth of Laura, Mira and Steffi in ‘Paradise is Burning’ is fleeting and bright, often violent yet wholeheartedly beautiful...

Not everything works in Mika Gustafson’s feature debut, but the performances, in particular that of the magnetic Delbravo, have an unpredictable, wayward energy.

The result is a film that is as ferocious as it is poetic, capturing teen girldom in all its messy, beautiful, evanescent glory.
