Storyline

In a city consumed by gentrification, artist João Fiadeiro and the company he keeps postpone and embrace the end at the house they inhabited for the last decades. By vacating, they occupy; by disbanding, they stay together; by celebrating, they reclaim a 30-year-old project from disaffected national politics. What remains when everything must go? How does one keep on?

Critics consensus

“It may not improve on the Raymond Carver short story that inspired it, but Everything Must Go resists cliche and boasts a pair of magnetic performances from the perfectly cast Ferrell and Wallace.”

Everything Must Go is not a comedy as imagined by most Will Ferrell fans, it instead takes Ferrell out of his usually funny-man comfort zone and puts him in a role about life's lessons and understanding those around us.

A well-controlled film with a portrait at its centre that is astonishingly complete.

A pleasing, satisfying chamber-piece.

This adaptation of a Raymond Carver short story (“Why Don’t You Dance?”) is a gem -- perhaps more of a diamond in the rough than a polished jewel, but still.
