Storyline

The Black Cop follows a former police officer’s experience of being both the victim and perpetrator of racism within the police. It’s a riveting confessional about compromise, fortitude and self-discovery - to find a way through systemic racism and homophobia, by pioneering and championing rights within the force and wider society.

Tilting between social satire and pitch-black drama with unnerving ease, Cory Bowles's feature debut Black Cop is an intriguing high-wire act.

A nervy movie that entertainingly tackles serious subjects head on.

Some of the symbolism and satire is a bit clunky or far too on-the-nose, but mostly Black Cop shows us the tragic fall of a man who hits his breaking point and becomes determined to similarly break the community he's sworn to protect.
