Stunning practical effects work, a great story with great characters, and a huge sense of fun, it's a shame that The Blob doesn't have as big of a following as it should have.

All we get is sullen Kevin Dillon subbing for Steve and a bigger, nastier lump that bloodies up its victims in stomach-churning close-ups.

Though The Blob’s jaw-dropping practical effects are its main draw, the film’s script does a great job of developing a fun cast of small town characters while working in some humor and charm along the way.

It’s a corny monster premise, somehow made actually terrifying by showing, not telling what the monster can do.
