Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvothu’s effective performances make director Christo Tomy’s debut film a gripping drama on secrets, mistakes, and redemption.

It seems to be a while since Malayalam has had a film driven by such emotional turbulence. It reminds one of ‘80s and ‘90s films directed and written by greats like Padmarajan, Bharathan, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and MT.

For a film that is titled Undercurrent, it is fitting that I came out of it feeling as if I was finally able to escape the confines of a suffocating situation, and left with more questions on how society has done a number on women.
