Storyline

What if from one day to the next, you’re no longer seen, but instead are stared at? The leading characters in this multi-layered film have ended up in a new world where suddenly nothing seems to align. In their new lives in the Netherlands, they unintentionally provoke reactions on a daily basis. Even after many years, they still hear the same questions over and over again: where are you from, do you speak Dutch, do you tan in the sun?

It is an unusual mix of personal yearning and restlessness with a desire to be understood – its four central female figures are honest, casually heart-breaking voices of the eternally different.

All You See is a visually arresting film. Whether it’s the protagonists in the stark concrete rooms, projections of their former lives, shots of Holland from above, everything in this film is gorgeous to look at, and relevant to the stories being shared.

Padidar develops visual motifs that lend a veritable line drawing some vital shading. In many ways, All You See is about using cinema to knock down the Tower of Babel.

Evocative and emotionally rich, All You See provides some important perspectives on these deeply complex situations, just as it lays bare painful situations.
