Storyline

Marie-Philip is a PhD student and part-time professor who loves cats and Harry Potter. But one week before her 29th birthday, she is diagnosed with breast cancer. For a year, without false modesty, we follow her through each step as she confides in us with shocking honesty. An ode to life, to courage and to the resilience of all those who fight every day against disease.

“Days poetically explores the experience of loneliness, reaffirming that few filmmakers understand the human condition as deeply as Ming-liang Tsai.”

Tsai Ming-liangs largely dialogue-free Days speaks volumes, and Grasshoppers excellent home video release highlights the aesthetic and tonal complexity of its minimalist approach.

There are no subtitles here, but subtitles also feel unnecessary because it's a really immersive experience.

David Ehrlich

"Days" becomes such a resonant addition to Tsai's exhumed body of work because the filmmaker recognizes and embraces that uncharacteristically sentimental undertow.

There couldn’t be a more poignant climax in such a composed film.
