“Girl” offers a harsh Dickensian tale of penury, greed, love and regret, features characters who look like haunted bobbleheads and eventually disappears up its own narrative hindquarters.

An impressive technical accomplishment, flashing back from slick opulence into a miserable, bedraggled past, where the figures and environments all look the creations of a very depressive mind. The tale itself is clever, even challenging...

There is richness in story but also in the artistry used to tell it. From the puppets, the sets, the music and entire art direction, 'The Girl...' is a film that requires repeat viewings.

Is it stop-motion? CGI? Both? Whatever it is, it’s truly marvelous to behold.
