Jazz purists may sniff at a film about a Jarrett concert that failed to get the rights to the music, but it’s hard not to fall for Vera and the sunny depiction of countercultural idealism.

As a punchy portrait of a young woman railing against a dreary future, Köln 75 is diverting and entertaining.

Scrappy, stylish and occasionally self-indulgent, Köln 75 turns backstage bedlam into jazz-infused drama. Mala Emde conducts the chaos and her performance, like the film, is most alive when everything threatens to collapse.

Köln 75 is an exciting film that jazz aficionados will appreciate ... It takes that unprecedented moment in history and brings it alive through Vera’s energetic enthusiasm. Emde makes this film her own!
