Neil Jordan’s film is a delightfully perverse reworking of the traditional fairy tale.

RTChicago Sun-TimesOct 23, 2004

It is not a children's film and it is not an exploitation film; it is a disturbing and stylish attempt to collect some of the nightmares that lie beneath the surface of "Little Red Riding Hood."

…the fairy-tale imagery is re-set from Angela Carter's feminist POV, and that gives this movie a unique flavour that was well ahead of its time...Neil Jordan's The Company of Wolves is a neglected folk horror classic well worth tracking down….

Feminism meets Freud meets fractured fairy tales in The Company of Wolves, one of the finest of all werewolf flicks.
