It’s a sincere movie celebrating quiet resilience, Dusty’s story working hard to seek a small salvation and to redefine the idea of homecoming. Quietly but intently, it hymns the value of hope in a hard world.

A lovely rendering of what feels like half a story. It’s not the action its title promises, but the preceding moment of retreat to lick one’s wounds.

It is another highly sympathetic performance from O’Connor, who converts the British reticence of his earlier roles into Dusty’s strength and quiet vulnerability.

A movie that affirms our humanity doesn’t need to knock my socks off, and affirming humanity is what Rebuilding does.
