It’s unfortunate that Chappelle’s The Dreamer is, like some of his prior Netflix specials, obsessively fixated on the trans community, because it’s not an area he particularly excels at, resorting to puerile premises and punchlines.

Between the hacky, tired jokes and the long-form storytelling nature of the show (a staple of this mid-career Chappelle), there are few laughs to be had.

Like a theoretical physicist helping the Nazis during World War II, or a surgeon dedicating his life to stealing kidneys, the legendary comedian isn’t exactly putting his skills to good use.

Comic GOAT punches down and all around in bold but meandering Netflix special.
