... unlike the Twisted Childhood Universe, Steven LaMorte’s horror makes some effort to engage with the source material in humorous, gory ways...

Screamboat isn’t the first slasher movie to spoof Steamboat Willie, the 1928 animated short that introduced a primitive black-and-white version of Mickey Mouse, but it’s a lot more fun than last year’s The Mouse Trap.

It almost works enough to recommend even to those not clamoring to see it. It could be funnier. It could be a lot smarter. It could look better. But it also could have been significantly worse.

Screamboat isn’t a groundbreaking film by any means, but it’s a lot of fun and will gain a dedicated following for sure.
