It doesn’t quite convince, but Klapisch extracts a lot of charm from the idea, switching between past and present with such panache that the two narratives merge in a single portrait of the city at its most vibrant.

It makes for ideal summer viewing and fondly celebrates the vibrant arts and culture scene in Paris. It also emphasizes our need to slow down and connect with each other and the world around us. It’s an absolute delight.

It’s the kind of French movie for which you’ll need a sweet tooth, but it’s tasty.

The relationship of past and present, the importance of family and art, innocence and experience, personal choices … so much more. Klapisch manages to interweave all of this ... as part of a sublime, subtle narrative.
