Troublemaker

Viewers step back in time witnessing the social/political emergence of a biblical-like figure.

While it makes sense the film wouldn’t quite dive into this, the project is reverent, perhaps to a fault, not critiquing the ways Mandela wasn't always present for his children.

Using interviews conducted for Mandela’s autobiography as its spine, Troublemaker is pure hagiography. Still, having Mandela’s voice guide you through even a sanitized version of his life feels important and, in places, unnervingly timely.

Troublemaker feels like the start of a reconciliation between the myth and the man.
