One thing you have to admit is that the film is paced nicely for the experience of two people trapped in a tunnel; it’s both somehow agonisingly underwritten and, with the antic camera and incessant score, strangely overblown.

While Scurry has its moments, it largely plays out more like a full-length moviemaking experiment than an actual full-length movie.

Scurry suggests that Luke Sparke’s career is still a work-in-progress... when he can marry a really great script to his already extraordinary visual sensibilities, he’s likely to finally be recognised as an exciting and dynamic talent in genre filmmaking.

A nightmare in real time, Scurry is a one-take descent into claustrophobic terror. It drags you underground and never lets you come up for air. Tense, visceral, and suffocatingly immersive, it’s an imperfect but nerve-flaying ride.
