Brooks and Gordon could easily get away with making “Oh, Hi!” a reverse “Misery”... Instead, they opt for a film that’s far more sophisticated and surprising.

The story's darker turns get at an anxiety and loneliness in millennial romance that feels genuine, and the performers' considerable chemistry goes a long way, even if the film's later sequences push unlikeliness well past the breaking point.

Is any of it believable? Relatable? Does it need to be? Hardly a Hallmark film, Oh, Hi! is a testimony to what happens when we pour creative energy into original storylines instead of the dark abyss of reboot culture.

I thought this movie was silly and ridiculous in a fun way, but it also seems like it will spark meaningful conversations about dating especially when it comes to commitment and communication.
