Love of Your Life is a tender and emotionally mature portrait of love, loss, grief and forgiveness.

This film succeeds because of Qualley’s mercurial and tone-rich performance, the gorgeous cinematography from Todd Banhazl and a nuanced protagonist confronting both exterior and interior hardships.

Manipulation is a given in this brand of weepie, as essential to the formula as martyrdom. If love means never having to say you’re sorry, I won’t apologize for blubbering through this movie.

Central to the story’s success is a terrific turn from Qualley, who showcases a more subtle, sensitive side than what has previously drawn acclaim in movies like Drive-Away Dolls, Honey, Don’t and Blue Moon.
