Make sure to watch this thriller in its original German. Dubbed into English, it goes from mildly diverting to landing like a ton of, well ….

It's frustrating to see such high-concept potential, some decent production design, and a couple of game leads fall victim to a mystery that unfolds with thudding obviousness.

One-dimensional characters, some repetitive scenes and an increasingly muddled plot do detract from the effective on-paper allegory.

Personally, I can’t help but think several endings were tossed around, and I would’ve preferred a much darker ending. But hey, to each their own, and I still enjoyed it.
