The sound of barrel-scraping during true-crime documentaries is becoming more and more frequent at Netflix these days... A Toxic Love Story is a welcome, if doubtless temporary, return to form.

It’s something weirder, something that plays into our modern-day fascination with tech, obsession with self, the need to be the center of attention, and using psychological tools to manipulate the vulnerable. What a tangled, mangled web.

I’ll let you discover the insanity all for yourself. But if you like real-life twists, you’ll thank me.

Still, plenty to chew on for the true-crime fan, with a strange-but-true tale tailormade for discussion around the office watercooler.
