High Society

With its first-class casting, the incorporation of novel but germane musical numbers and the spirit of equanimity toward the upper-crust characters and their environs, this is a do-over worth watching over and over.

It starts off at a listless, unflattering pace, but before the show is over, the Technicolor VistaVision musical is resuscitated, finishing off with a flair.

High Society...is as flimsy as a gossip-columnist's word, especially when it is documenting the weird behavior of the socially elite.

Even the staunchest musical sceptic will be toe-tapping whenever Louis Armstrong, playing himself, gets his band started up.
